Environmental Policy - Green-line Policy

Greenline Plastics has set forth an ambitious environmental policy. In the first phases of the concept and design of the technology it was decided to adapt to the strictest quality standards. Following are a few of the objectives, which have already been achieved, although continuous efforts are and will be made towards environmentally friendly solutions

Recyclable

The outer wall and the insulation foam of the DWIB boxes are made out of one and the same material, making the DWIBs fully recyclable.

At the end of DWIB lifespan they will be returned to the nearest factory, where they will be ground into plastic pellet and the powder recycled to foam material in the production of new boxes.

Re-usable

The DWIBs are re-usable with an expected lifetime of five years compared to EPS boxes (expandable polystyrene), which are single-use boxes. The EPS boxes have to be disposed of after only one use and are in many areas creating environmental problems. France is planning to ban burying of EPS in landfill sites and EPS will have to be burnt in high temperature incinerators.

Better utilization of limited natural resources

The use of DWIB boxes in food industries, like the fishing industry, will reduce post harvesting losses, which are considered to be 20-30% in small scale fisheries in many warmer and tropical countries.

The utilization of limited natural resources like fish stocks will be better by icing fish in DWIBs.

Health hazards are reduced as food quality is better maintained by using DWIBs.

The utilization of natural resources such as oil will be better since the polyethylene material (derived from oil) used in the DWIBs is re-used in new DWIBs or other plastic products.

More energy efficient production

The production machinery for the DWIBs utilizes direct heating of the molds instead of heating molds in air ovens, which are heated up with oil burners causing pollution. Direct heating is additionally more energy efficient since only the mold itself is heated instead of the mold, the rotating mechanism and the oven in the conventional way.
